چکیده

• Corticosteroids function to optimize the stress response and are thus essential for the organism to cope with the stressor. • Corticosteroid signaling is mediated by two receptors: the high-affinity mineralocorticoid receptor and the low-affinity glucocorticoid receptor. • Imbalance between central glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid receptor affects the secretion of corticosteroids and has profound consequences for adaptation to stress. • Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the glucocorticoid receptor gene affect not only corticosteroid production and secretion but also the effects of corticosteroids in different physiological and behavorial systems. • Other influences such as trauma can permanently alter the glucocorticoid/mineralocorticoid receptor balance.

The effect of stress and glucocorticoids on modulation of pain in mice: Interaction with activation of voltage dependent Ca2+ channel

Previous studies indicated that stress and glucocorticoids have modulatory effects on acute pain. The aim of present study was to determine the interaction between stress and glucocorticoids with activation of voltage dependent Ca2+ channel on modulation of acute pain in mice. Male albino mice (25-30 g) were used for this experiment. Tail flick and hot plate were used for evaluation of analgesi...

Oxidative stress and protein catabolism following dexamethasone and isoflupredone administration in Holstein calves

Background: Glucocorticoids have several benefits in large animal medicine but apart from their benefits, there are several disadvantages attributed to the use of these drugs. Among the disadvantages, disturbance in protein metabolism is one of the side effects of glucocorticoids which has been investigated in human and laboratory animals. OBJECTIVES: There are no information regarding the effe...

Probiotic supplementation improves the cognitive function and the anxiety-like behaviors in the stressed rats

Objective(s): Prenatal stresses increase incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders and influence cognitive abilities. Glucocorticoids are released in stress condition as endpoint activation of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Evidence indicates a cross-talk between gut microbiota and brain function. This study assesses the effect of probiotic supplementation ...

Fetal programming of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal function: prenatal stress and glucocorticoids.

Prenatal stress (PS) and maternal exposure to exogenous glucocorticoids can lead to permanent modification of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) function and stress-related behaviour. Both of these manipulations lead to increased fetal exposure to glucocorticoids. Glucocorticoids are essential for many aspects of normal brain development, but exposure of the fetal brain to an excess of glucoco...

Central mineralocorticoid receptors mediate impairing effects of corticosterone on memory retrieval in rats

Introduction: Previous studies have indicated that stress levels of glucocorticoid hormones induce impairment of long term memory retrieval, but the underlying mechanisms (genomic or non-genomic) are not clear. To clarify this issue, we investigated the involvement of brain corticosteroid receptors and protein synthesis in the glucocorticoid-induced impairment of memory retrieval. Methods: 140 ...
